click on start at the bottom of your screen, then move the mouse over to where it says all programs
from there move to were it says pc help & tools
from there it will give you more options, so then it'll be up to you which one you want to use
personally when we recover data we use the option that says:
Compaq System Recovery because it repairs the pc back to original factory settings so it's just like when we first bought it

I don't think you can do it with software if the drive is dead – the drive has to be spinning to get at the data.
Was the drive clicking before it died? Are you sure that all the cables are connected (SATA cables just about have to be glued in).
There's a rumor that if you put a drive in the freezer it *might* run for a little while, but I've never tried it.

I think you can solve this problem by yourself if you have the Windows CD. It is better if you have the same version CD which you are using, or even if you dont have you can try solving it.
Please give me the windows version so that I can suggest you the exact steps which appear on screen.
Try repairing the operating system, and then try fixing errors on the hard disk using the chkdsk /f utility.
It is not difficult as you think.
